What to Expect

Kenya’s wildlife is unparalleled and you’ll soon see why – elephants silhouette in the shadows of the magnificent Mount Kilimanjaro in the grassy plains of the Amboseli National Park, Kenya’s drier provinces play host to the Special five, and birds flock to the lakes of the Great Rift Valley.

All this, however a visit to the plains of the Masaai and Sambaru remains incomplete without stopping to meet with the locals  who live in the untainted wilderness, side by side with the animals.

Vast plains, great lakes,  and rich wildlife – a ‘safari’ in Kenya are quite simply a ‘journey’ of a lifetime.

Itinerary

Day 1Nairobi | Lake Nakuru

Upon arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi you will leave behind the bustling city to head the Lake Nakuru National Park.
Located in the Great Rift Valley, surrounding the Lake Nakuru, the park is home to over four hundred species of birds including greater and lesser flamingos as well as abundant game – both the black and the white rhino are found here as are huge herds of waterbuck, zebra, buffalo, the endangered Rothschild Giraffe and the occasional leopard.
Post lunch, set out for an afternoon game drive.

Be careful to sight herds of buffalo and black and white rhinoceros which can often be seen resting under the acacias by the shores of the lake. Climbing higher into the wooded hillside, keep an eye out for baboons, and gazelles before arriving at a large rocky out crop, perfect for watching the stars come out as the sun sets.
Head back to the camp for dinner, before turning in for the day.

Day 2Lake Nakuru | Maasai Mara National Reserve

Post breakfast, leave for the Maasai Mara National reserve. Stunning in it own right, this six hour journey will take you away from the majestic Rift Valley towards the vast plains of the Maasai Mara.
One of the most popular reserves in the entire continent, the Maasai Mara is globally renowned for its wildlife and in particular for the important role it plays in the Great Migration.
It landscapes made predominantly of open grasslands of the savannah, the reserve offers fantastic chances to sight the Big Five. Other wildlife to look out include the elephant, giraffe, zebra, hyena, impala, and wildebeest among others.
Arriving in time for lunch, check into the Mara Eden Tented Camp. Proceed to the afternoon Game drive soon after.
Explore the savannah until sunset, when the skies explode with hues of yellow, orange and red.
Head back to camp for the night.

Day 3Maasai Mara National Reserve

Get a head start. Post breakfast, set out for an entire day out in the plains.
Make time to appreciate the rich landscapes that host the most quintessential of Africa’s wildlife- leopards, cheetahs, lions, herds of zebra, wildebeest, gazelle, giraffe and elephants.
Over the course of the morning you will drive to the southern borders of the park to see the Mara River, home to the hippo and the Nile crocodile. Pause to observe the wildlife that come to the shore for a drink.
As the sun peaks, stop for a picnic lunch.Working back towards camp, make you way past the pure wilderness that the plains of the Savannah.
Near sundown, lions and cheetahs come out from their shaded spots to try their evening meal. As the African sunset provides the perfect back drop for this game, head back to the camp for dinner.

Day 4Maasai Mara National Reserve | Lake Naivasha

Start the day with an early morning game drive, to catch the wildlife when it’s most active. Return to breakfast at the camp before leaving to Lake Naivasha. Stop for an early lunch at Narok.
A short ride down the waters of the lake, allows you to access the Crescent Island Wildlife Sanctuary. Boasting of an abundance in wildlife, the sanctuary is home to giraffes, zebras, waterbucks, impalas and a countless number of bird species.
Popular among the locals for getting away from urbanity, Crescent island is offers a range of activities including guided hikes, walks, biking and/ or game viewing.
Enjoy a guided walking safari.
Proceed to dinner at the Naivasha Sopa Lodge.

Day 5Lake Naivasha | Amboseli National Park

Post breakfast leave Lake Naivasha to reach Amboseli National Park in time for lunch. Driving south through the Maasai country this route takes you via Nairobi to the plains in the shadow of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Offering iconic vistas of Africa’s highest mountain and hosting an abundance of wildlife, Amboseli National Park is predominantly known for its elephant population and diverse selection of over 350 bird species. Huge herds can be seen anywhere you look, feeding in the swamps or crossing tracks. However, also seen are Buffalos, zebras, wildebeest and antelopes and the occasional lion, cheetah, wild dog and hyena.
Check into the Kibo Safari Camp. Post lunch, set out for the afternoon game drive, in search of herds of wildebeest and zebras, and elephants as they gather around a watering hole, with the magnificent Mt. Kilimanjaro in the background.
Head back to the accommodation at sunset, stopping to have dinner.

Day 6Amboseli National Park

Post breakfast, head out for an entire day at the Amboseli National Park, searching for hunting lions and cheetahs. Keep your eyes peeled for the elusive leopard relaxing in the shade of the acacia tree, perhaps with a hunt.
Pause to soak in the iconic landscapes of the park – alpine meadows, woodlands, arid bush, grasslands, swamps, seasonal lakes, and vast plains flanked by high mountains.
Head back to camp for lunch and prepare for an afternoon game drive.
With the sun set, retire to the camp for dinner.

Day 7Amboseli National Park |Nairobi

Start the day with an early morning game drive, sun rise puts the surrounding imposing mountains in fantastic light, offering stunning views of the Kilimanjaro. The early morning makes an excellent game viewing condition, seeing as the wildlife is more active, when the sun is still low and the temperatures are cooler.
Post breakfast, leave for Nairobi for your flight back home.
Recollect the memories of your stay at Kenya on your way back.
