In the north of the modern town of Siem Reap, is the most historically and religiously important site, Angkor Wat, one of the most important archaeological sites in South-East Asia, is situated in the northern province of Cambodia . Built by Emperor Suryavarman II, Angkor Wat is said to be the largest religious monument in the world was constructed as a Hindu temple for the god, Vishnu, for the Khmer Empire and was Vrah Visnuloka or Parama Visnuloka. It gradually transformed into a Buddhist Temple.  It is the best-preserved temple site which has remained a significant religious centre since its foundation. The temple boasts the classical style of Khmer architecture as it has remained the capital and centre of the Khmer Empire for several centuries and is the national symbol of Cambodia, since it’s the country’s main attraction for tourists.

Itinerary

DAY 1:Arrival at Siem Reap

We will be arriving at our hotel at 12:30 pm to have a small “Welcome to Angkor Wat” meeting and get acquainted with each other during lunch at the hotel.
We will be heading for The Phare Circus at 8 pm and have a late night stroll and dinner on Pub Street.

DAY 2:Angkor Wat

We will begin early at 5:00 am to catch the sunrise over Angkor Wat, Cambodia’s most ancient and respected temple complex.
First stop for this day will be the Walled city called ‘Angkor Thom’ and enjoy our time observing the Bayon Temples with faces carved on stones walls. Bayon is one of the most widely recognised temples in the Angkor Park because of the giant stone faces that adorn the towers of Bayon.
The Second Stop is the main temple itself, Angkor Wat which has a a celestial significance and a a unique combination of the temple mountain as The Angkor Wat temple’s main tower aligns to the morning sun of the Spring Equinox.
From depicting episodes from the Hindu epics the Ramayana and the Mahabharata well as the infamous Churning Of the Sea Milk, Angkor Wat is decorated with depictions of apsaras and devata.
Next up, we have the Ta Prohm which is famously known for trees literally growing out of the ruins. This place is also known as the Tomb Raider temple where Angelina Jolie’s film Lara Croft was shot. After that, the Ta Som temple in the northeast of the walled city. It’s quite famous for its eastern gate which has a tree growing out of it. And then we will be heading to Preah Khan temple in the east of Ta Som. It is quite similar to the Tomb Raider temple with ancient trees growing out and around it.
We will then set out for the Pre Rup temple for a peaceful sunset experience and have dinner at the infamous BUGS cafe which serves bugs as a delicacy.
(NOTE: They do serve food that doesn’t have bugs in it)

DAY 3:Phnom Kulen

Our morning drive will take us to Phnom Kulen which is a mountain range and a part of Phnom Kulen National Park in Siem Reap Province. The Samré tribe was formerly living at the edge of Phnom Kulen, quarrying sandstone and transporting it to the royal sites. It has a great religious significance to Hindus and Buddhists who come to the mountain in pilgrimage. Apart from this, it also adorns many breathtaking waterfalls, a perfect place to relax, meditate and pray. We will also be going to Preah Ang Thom houses a large statue of Buddha as well as Chup Preah,Kbal Spean, The Terrace of Sdach Kum Ling and the Srah Damrei.

DAY 4: Siem Reap to Phnom Penh

After a quick breakfast, we will embark towards Phnom Pehn, Cambodia’s busy capital that sits at the junction of the Mekong and Tonlé Sap rivers. With its walkable riverfront, lined with parks, restaurants and bars, are the ornate Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and the National Museum, displaying artifacts from around the country, this city has a charm that never fails to trap a tourist’s heart.

The rest of the day can be spent at leisure to explore the town and getting to know the locals

DAY 5:Phnom Penh

After a wholesome breakfast, we will be heading to Watt Langka and its for all those soul-searchers out there, Wat Langka hosts free one-hour silent meditation sessions throughout the week, supervised by English-speaking monks. It remains to be one of the capital’s most sacred temples, competing with Wat Ounalom for top spot.
Next stop is Wat Ounalom whose main complex houses a stupa that contains what is believed to be an eyebrow hair of Buddha and an inscription in Pali. It is the most important wat of Phnom Penh, and the center of Cambodian Buddhism.
Post this, we stop at the Central Market, Phnom Penh. The unique Art Deco building is a Phnom Penh landmark with the shape of a dome with four arms branching out into vast hallways with countless stalls of goods.

DAY 6:Exploration Day at Phnom Penh
