The Kalalau Trail on the Hawaiian island of Kauai weaves through one of the world’s most famous natural wonders, the Na Pali coast. The trail traverses 5 valleys before ending at Kalalau Beach where it is blocked by sheer, fluted pali. The 12-mile trail is graded but almost never level as it crosses above towering sea cliffs and through lush valleys. The trail drops to sea level at the beaches of Hanakāpīʻai and Kalalau. The Kalalau Trail is one of the toughest, albeit most worthwhile hikes in the Aloha State.

We will wake up early today, and follow the winding road as it switchbacks to the summit of Haleakala National Park to watch the sunrise. We will return to our hotel after watching the sunrise, and have our breakfast. After being done with breakfast, we will visit the Waianapanapa State Park for its black sandy beaches and waves crashing against the shoreline. Next we will visit the Red Sand Beach, named after its beautiful sand color, which is a short walk to an inlet. We spend some time here relaxing on the beach.
(Overnight at Maui)
After breakfast today, we will head on a tour of the Molokini Crater and Turtle Town to see Pacific marine life. Keep your eyes open for whales and dolphins as the tour boat does all the work in shuttling you between the Molokini Crater and Turtle Town. Once we are on dry land, we will head for lunch and then walk around the beach shops for indulging in some shopping. In the evening we will take our flight to Kauai. Upon reaching Kauai, we will check into our hotel.

We start our day early today. And after breakfast we will be transferred to Haena Beach Park, from where we will begin our trek on the famous Kalalau Trail. Upon reaching the trailhead, that is Ke’e Beach, we start hiking to Hanakoa Camp. The first mile of the trail is a fairly steady uphill climb. After a bit of the climb you are treated to your first views of the coastline. Then we will begin to descent down to Hanakapi’ai Stream for the first stream crossing. After crossing the stream, we will reach the Hanakapi’ai Beach and set our camp here for the night. After being done with lunch, we will go to see the Hanakapi’ai Falls.
Total trek: 4 miles
(Overnight at Hanakapi’ai beach)
After breakfast today, we will start towards Hanakoa Camp. The trail from here on alternates between hugging the coastline and going through the rain forest. About a mile past Hanakapi’ai Beach, we will have to get permits to continue trekking. We would then hike across the valley and meander through some forests. After hiking through the forest for a bit, we will emerge back along the coast and get some very nice views as we make the hike towards the Hanakoa camping area.
Total trek: 3 miles

We will wake up early today and have our breakfast. We will then embark on our hike. This section of the hike is the most scenic one. Less of the hike is in the trees and you see the first close-up views of the amazing backdrop behind Kalalau Beach. We will reach a sign that welcomes us to the Kalalau Beach area. From here we will have a bit more hiking before reaching the actual beach. We will camp near the waterfalls on the ocean side of the trail.
