Day 0206.04.19 | Saturday | Manali | City Tour

After breakfast, set out to discover the most visited valley in the country.

Start your day at the Hidimbidevi Temple. This unique three story temple is dedicated to Goddess Hadimbi (wife of Bheem, one of the five Pandava brothers of epic Mahabharata). The stacked pitch roof, clerestory windows, the elaborately painted main door and the beam over the entrance are striking features of this temple which is one of the most important pilgrimages in Manali.

Next, stop by at the Manali Temple, dedicated to Sage Manu, this sacred shrine is the namesake of the town and the only Manu Temple in the world. The site of the temple is rumoured to be where Manu meditated when he first came down to Earth for the first time . Located in old Manali, the vicinity of the temple is quite congested, but thankfully River Beas lends an air of tranquillity to the temple.

Located at a distance of 3 km from Manali, there is a small village called Vashist, on the left bank of river Beas towards Rohtang pass. This village is known for its natural hot sulphur springs and temples. This would be your next stop.

Among them, the most prominent is a temple dedicated to Rishi Vashisht. More than 4000 years old the temple is home to intricate carvings on wood. The insides of the temple are beautifully ornamented with antique paintings and the hot springs within the temple complex is believed to have medicinal values.

At a distance of 4 km from here, Jogni Falls is a beautiful waterfall formed by a stream which merges with Beas River, downstream. The water sits at the edge of the village of Vashist and marks its boundaries. At the base of the waterfall which cascades from 150 feet, is a pool and a temple which is considered to be very sacred by the locals of the surrounding villages. Take a dip in the pool or just enjoy the tranquillity of the cascading swimming pool.

The waterfalls can also be reached by a 1-hour trek which will take you through apple orchards, tall pine trees and small water streams. This short trek is said to be the best short treks near Manali, offering you glimpses of the local beauty and the ways of the local life.

Calling it a day, we head back to the hotel, driving through enchanting picture-perfect landscapes.
