Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Jaipur

Arrive at the Jaipur airport/railway station and our representative will cordially escort you to the hotel.

After lunch, go out on a city tour to the ‘Hawa Mahal’ (Palace of Winds) – an elaborate building encrusted with delicate honeycomb screens and carved balconies from which the royal ladies, confined to their quarters, could view the world outside.
Drop by the intriguing Jai Singh’s Observatory built in the 17th century by the founder of Jaipur who, a soldier, prince, astronomer and builder. Also stop by the City Palace, a part of which is now a museum that contains fine Rajput and Moghul paintings, rare manuscripts and an armoury, old carpets, and even amazingly embroidered clothes of the Maharajas and the Maharanis.

Head back to the accommodation for the night.

Day 2Jaipur sightseeing

After breakfast, go out on a venture to the Amber Fort – just 7 miles north of Jaipur – a honey-coloured fortress-palace in the Aravalli Hills which can be mounted on elephant back (additional cost). It has been described as ‘the sleeping beauty of Rajasthan’. The sombre exterior puts forth the richness of the royal apartments, which open on to striking views of the gorge. It also possesses a Chamber of Mirrors. The Hall of Victory presents a galaxy of decorative art – panels of alabaster with fine inlay work of the tenderness hues.

Head back to the accommodation for the night.

Day 3Jaipur-Jodhpur

Check out and depart for Jodhpur by road which is 332kms/08hrs approx.

Arrive and check in at the hotel. Embrace the bustling desert city which is also the second largest city in Rajasthan after Jaipur and has landscape dominated by the massive Meherangarh Fort topping a sheer rocky ridge.

Head back to the accommodation for the night.

Day 4Jodhpur sightseeing

After early breakfast, check out of the hotel and visit the pristine city of Jodhpur – 393 feet above the flat surrounding plain soars a bold bluff on which was built the massive ‘Meherangarh’ (Majestic) Fort. Inside the fort, there is a whole series of courtyards and palaces. The fort also houses some fine pieces of Rajput miniature paintings, armoury, elephant howdahs, and palanquins. On the road down the Fort, see the Jaswant Thada, the blinding white marble cenotaph (chhatri) of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II and Clock Towers which stands in the city centre. Take a glimpse of the famous Umaid Bhavan, which is converted into a Hotel but a part of the palace is still a Royal Residence. It has a small personal collection of authentic bone china crockery and antique watches.

Return to the accommodation from the enriching city tour.

Day 5Jodhpur - Jaisalmer

After breakfast, depart for Jaisalmer by road 295kms/07hrs approx. Arrive and check in at the hotel.

Founded by Prince Jaisal in 1156, Jaisalmer grew to be a major staging post on the trade route across the forbidding Thar Desert from India to the West. Set in a sea of gold-tinged sand, popularly known as – ‘Sonar Kella’, a golden fort rises out of a rock of topaz.

The entire living area of Jaisalmer lies within the gigantic citadel walls and is certainly a marvellous tourist location.

Day 6Jaisalmer sightseeing

After breakfast, go out on a city tour of Jaisalmer. Visit the silent 12th century Fort built by Prince Jaisal and the Palace. The uniqueness of this fort is that it is the only ‘living fort’ in Rajasthan – people still reside within the fort walls. The fort stands at the highest point (100 meters) above the marketplace. Also visit the Jain Temples (12th-15th centuries) which lie within the fort complex. Some of them have quaint but impressive figures of Jain saints of white marble.

Jaisalmer is evident in the elaborate facades of the yellow sandstone desert havelis (mansions) which glow softly in honey tones. Visit intricately carved Havelis built by Merchants; the largest and most elaborate of the famous havelis of Jaisalmer is Patwon ki Haveli. Patwas were the merchants trading in rich brocades, gold and silver embroidery, sequins and ribbons. A brief stop at Gadi Sagar is a must – a man made pond; a luxury in the centre of the Thar Desert!

Next, visit the ‘Sam’ to experience the pace and space of desert life. Ride to the smooth, silky sands of Sam sand dunes where the Raikas (camel drovers) travel with their animals over vast distances and know every waterhole and pasture in their region.
It is recommended that you time your visit by sunset- so you can enjoy a camel ride around the sand dunes by
sunset.

After a fulfilling tour around Jaisalmer, head back to the hotel.

Day 7Jaisalmer-Jodhpur

After breakfast, depart for Jodhpur by road which is 295kms/07hrs approx. Arrive and check in at the hotel.

Day 8Jodhpur- Udaipur

After early breakfast, depart for Udaipur by road which is 259kms/6hrs approx.

Enroute visit the Ranakpur Temple one of the most magnificent Jain temples in India located in a deep, secluded valley.
It is an extensive complex covering 3,600 sq. meters and has 29 halls with 1,444 pillars, each unlike the other, intricately covered with delicate carvings. The main temple is Chaumukha Temple or four-faced temple, dedicated to Adinath, the Revealer of Truth.

Arrive at Udaipur and check into the hotel. Rest of the day is to be spent at leisure.

Day 9Udaipur sightseeing

Post breakfast, go out on a city tour of Udaipur. Visit the City Palace, once the home of Mewar’s rulers which today is a museum. It consists of several flawlessly integrated palaces, which overlook the clear blue of Lake Pichola and the Sahelion-ki-bari (Garden of the Maids of Honour) – the scene of royal parties for centuries.

Drive around Fateh Sagar Lake excavated in the late 17th century by Maharaja Jai Singh, past the Kala Mandir (Puppet Museum) and the Cenotaph of Maharana Pratap. Also do stop by the – Jagdish temple.

Next, drive 22 kms northeast of Udaipur to the village of Kailashpuri known for its 108 temples surrounded by a high-fortified wall. This 16th century complex is known as Sri Eklingji Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The sanctum is of a four-faced Shiva image of Black Marble.

Day 10Departure from Udaipur
