The Haute route started as a mountaineering trail connecting two great mountaineering centres. It is a world-renowned multi-day hiking journey starting in Chamonix, France near the Mont Blanc Massif and finishing in Zermatt, Switzerland where the Matterhorn towers above. It is regarded by many as the most magnificent hut to hut hiking trail that the Alps has to offer. Along the way, the trail passes by 10 of the 12 highest peaks in the Alps, as it winds its way through glacial valleys, alpine meadows and enchanting villages. The route passes through the centre of both the French and Swiss Alps: two distinct cultural regions with different languages and architecture.
Geneva Airport, Switzerland
3 Hours Before Flight Time
This is a world of glaciers and towering, snow-capped peaks. The Haute Route also meanders through green alpine valleys with flower-covered meadows and picture-book villages. This is a trek of contrasts. Experience the remote wonder of the Alps as you trek from Chamonix to Zermatt through traditional villages and past the famous Matterhorn. Rather than just a single path, it’s really a network of trails traversing the Pennine Alps and crossing the high passes and glacial valleys of the region. It’s widely regarded as one of the most scenic treks in Europe. Each day is defined by ascending historic and formidable mountain passes. You’ll walk in flowered meadows, skirting massive glaciers, and passing glistening lakes.
